I have shared 3 photo albums of our trip online with .Mac (web photo publication can’t get any easier than this), no access password is required:
1- Santo Domingo Album 1: Photos of historic and tourist spots in Santo Domingo, as well as Boca Chica beach to the east
2- Santo Domingo Album 2: Photos around our hotel, original city walls dating to the early 1500s, Universidad Autonoma Dominicana (oldest university in the Western Hemisphere and 2nd largest with 120K students,) Faro a Colon monument
3- North to Santiago, Puerto Plata, and Sosua: Gorgeous mountain ranges and green valleys, photos that look like postcards from the Breezes resort in Sosua east of Puerto Plata
After a 17 hour return trip home via New York, I am quite tired, so I will not post more reflections here– but on the trip I did post an initial trip report as well as some thoughts on lessons that we North American gringos could perhaps learn from the Dominicans.
I know I will really enjoy reading more about the DR in the weeks and months to come, especially its rich history– I will continue to post DR related bookmarks to my del.ico.us social bookmarks page for the DR: http://del.icio.us/wfryer/DominicanRepublic.
If you have an opportunity to travel to the DR or are considering different holiday vacation options, I would highly commend the DR to you. Our next visit, I hope we can stay at the Breezes Resort in Punta Cana on the eastern (Caribbean) coast.
