I am thrilled to learn that Feedburner subscribers can now permit anyone to subscribe to free email updates of blog postings, with a new free service called Feedblitz.
I have activated this service for my blog, and am providing three different email subscription options. I also have details about the “Educational Technology posts only” email subscription option and other content access options on my Tools for the TEKS website under the sidebar link “Mailing List.”
The beautiful thing about Feedblitz is that it can be used with ANY blogging service or blogging software, as long as the author/publisher is using Feedburner. As a WordPress user, I had experimented with the free Subscribe2 WordPress plugin. I was not very impressed. I think Feedblitz is going to be much better. I have loved Feedburner, and the fact that they are partnered officially is a great sign. People can manage their own subscriptions, and I don’t have to worry about those administrative details. Beautiful!
The fact that most people are still not familiar with RSS (as I discuss on my email updates page) is a persuasive reason to offer this service on your blog. Blogging is all about sharing ideas, and if people want to receive email updates containing blog posts– then I think everyone should give them that option / power.
The RMail service is another website allowing people to subscribe to any RSS feed via email, but I am not integrating it into my blog. I think the robust management options provided by Feedblitz look like the best choice for now!
If you have feedback on the Feedblitz service offered via my website or suggestions for other comparable services, please let me know!
