Quirkly issue that cropped up this weekend when we fell back 1 hour for daylight savings time. I posted content using Ecto as usual to my blog, but mysteriously the posts would not appear. I finally figured out the time was an hour off, so the post wasn’t being shown by the WordPress server software even though it actually was posted. This reveals a nice trick I didn’t know about, it seems you can post things in advance to WordPress and have them “appear” on the date and at the time you specified… this would be handy to keep blog postings showing up even when I am on vacation!
Yoz Grahame has a more detailed description of the issue which evidently affects all blog software running on moveable type technology. The short version is I had to make an administrative change in wordpress: under options – general, I had to reduce by an additional hour the entry for “times in the weblog should differ by.” Since I am on US central time, this number was “-5” and I had to change it to “-6”. Now all seems to be well again!
