WordPress is free, open source, and the best blogging software option I have used personally to date. Blogger is very user-friendly and quick to use, but it does not currently directly support categories (really an essential for most blogs) or separate RSS feeds for different categories. If you podcast (as I do) or might in the future, this is really handy since you can use a separate WordPress category to create your podcast feed.
Blogsome is a free service for people wanting to participate in global blogging conversations using WordPress. Educators can create a free WordPress blog using Edublogs, while students can use Learnerblogs. University students can use Uniblogs.
These tools are powerful and free if you have access to the Internet. If you don’t have a blog setup yet and are looking for a great free option, use one of the above tools to get started. If you want your own domain and are willing to pay (around $90 per year), I recommend going with PowWeb. (They host my Moving at the Speed of Creativity blog.)
