Bonjour for Windows
posted in apple, edtech |Bonjour is a zero configuration protocol for connecting printers and other peripherals to computers. It was developed by Apple and originally called Rendezvous. If you have a mixed platform environment including Macintosh and Windows computers, you may want to share a printer for all the computers on your local network. This could be in your school classroom or at home.
If you have the printer connected to a Macintosh, you likely need to download (for free) Bonjour for Windows. (Look in the lower right corner of the webpage for the download link.) In Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger) system preferences, you’ll also need to click the sharing icon and choose to turn on printer sharing for the computer to which the printer is physically connected.
After you install Bonjour for Windows, you’ll have a desktop icon (in Windows XP or whatever Windows variant you’re running) that you can use to connect to the Macintosh-shared printer. Printing to an HP Deskjet 5550, I found that it would not work using the actual print driver from HP. When using the “generic postscript” driver that was originally suggested by the bonjour print configuration program, however, it works great! ![]()
