I’ve updated my online workshop curriculum for tomorrow here at SITE 2006, “Welcome to Web 2.0.”

    Wes, I like how you have defined Web 2.0, especially the guiding principles. I might suggest that another characteristic of Web 2.0 is personalization. Providing the user the ability to customize a site to their needs and preferences is an important part of the new Web and has equal important in education.

    The read/write web is really exciting as a technology to enhance learning. Equally, the web as a portal to learning personlized by the learner has great potential. The idea of everyone in a class being given the same homework assignment is made obsolete by the notion that each student has different needs and the opportunity the web offers teachers to provide homework assignments personalized to these individual needs.

    Good addition Robert, I agree that personalization is a key element of many web 2.0 technologies. Teachers’ abilities to provide differentiated instruction should be enhanced by many of the capabilities of the read/write web, as well as learner’s own abilities to control information content and differentiate their own learning experiences.
