WebPlay is an:
internet-based arts education project that links children from around the world to learn about theatre and each other.
What a great concept. We need MORE OF THE ARTS in our schools, not less. Think.com teamed up with WebPlay back in March in California and apparently got lots of kids excited about theater, acting, expression and LITERACY. What a great project!
We need more time in schools for projects like these, and less time spent preparing for and actually taking formalized assessments. I know, I know, that’s a revolutionary and completely counter-cultural idea. But I’ve never let the fact that an idea is out-of-the-box and not the cultural norm stop me from blogging about it here before.
My oldest is going to perform four times this Friday in our local Lubbock Arts Festival, in the musical “Dear Edwina.” We all can’t wait! Activities like this, along with DI and Cub Scouting have provided his REAL education this year in 2nd grade, I think. These are experiences which, in the parlance of John Dewey, are truly educative. I’m sure the experiences of tomorrow and the weekend to come will be ones we’ll never forget, and certainly he won’t!
