Comments and Customization with iWeb
posted in apple, blogs, podcasting |iWeb is part of the iLife 06 suite of multimedia production software programs included with every new Macintosh. Back in February 2006, I shared several presentations about using iWeb at our TCEA state technology conference. (See Podcast34: Using iWeb for Blogging and Publishing for one of these presentations.)
Now, thanks to the creative development work of an enterprising Mac user, it is possible to use Haloscan commenting (which permits comment moderation, a must for classroom blogs) as well as other types of customization with iWeb.
iComment is a free software program (donation-ware) that lets you add commenting to iWeb. While Apple may choose to add commenting capabilities to a future release of iWeb, this free software program lets you add commenting right away.
iWeb Enhancer ($13 shareware) allows iWeb users to add “Flickr, YouTube, AdSense, Blogrolling, Flash Content, and more” to iWeb sites. This customization can make an iWeb blog or other page look similar to a Wordpress blog with dynamic sidebar content and other features.
Very cool tools, and really needed, especially iComment. Thanks to Maria Henderson for the tip, check out Maria’s iWeb site to see both iComment and iWeb Enhancer in action! Maria also has an outstanding “Podcasting in Education” page that she regularly updates.
