Awesome reflections on Web 2.0

posted in blogs, geography, podcasting, web 2.0 |

David Warlick posted his presentation about web 2.0 as a series of 4 podcasts episodes (look for #61) on his Connect Learning podcast recently, and this evening as I’ve been working on other things I listened to the first three segments. Fantastic stuff here, I highly commend it to you. A few things I liked or didn’t know about that David mentioned:

  • I appreciated David’s imagery of many librarians and other educators still envisioning themselves as the “gatekeepers of information,” standing on the walls of knowledge to protect the students from getting to close to the info… This reminded me of Colonel Jessep’s testimony in “A Few Good Men” which I quoted in my post, “Standing guard on the iWall” in November 2005.
  • BuzzTracker features “world news, mapped.” I probably should have heard of this before, but hadn’t– how cool and powerful! The archive is a great way to view what the world was “buzzing” about at a particular date in time.
  • Lulu is an amazing self-publishing service David has used for some of his books, and looks like a winner for me down the road when I make time to finish several writing projects I’ve started and want to publish in print as well as online. Wow! Print publication without any formal, personal contacts to print publishers? Martin Luther is surely rolling over in his grave!

Thanks so much to David for posting and sharing this preso with the world! 21st century professional development at home doesn’t get any better than this. :-)

On this day..
