Powerful search tools
posted in edtech |David Jakes is in Lubbock conducting a fantastic 3 day workshop on digital storytelling for teachers in our area TxTIP schools, and told me today about two excellent search sites that I have somehow missed in the past couple of years.
Soople is an “easy expert search” that lets even novice web searchers tap the powerful advanced search capabilities of Google. David says that after using Soople, most of the students he works with use it all the time instead of directly using Google’s main interface.
KartOO is a “visual meta search engine” that may drive digital immigrants mad, but the natives seem to love it. It uses flash to draw interactive maps of search results. Reminds me of Grokker but it is free and web-based: much better, in my opinion after limited comparisons.
