Moving at the Speed of Creativity by Wesley Fryer

Opportunities as advertised

Well, I had a very interesting first day at work filled with new faces and LOTS of new acronyms to learn. Everyone was extremely welcoming and friendly.

I know I’ll be writing more about this in the weeks to come, but for now I’ll note that this job is exactly what it was advertised to me as: An entrepreneurial opportunity to engage with a wide variety of educational stakeholders on issues of educational advocacy.

I am working right in downtown Oklahoma City, and traffic is really not too bad. It took me about 15 minutes to drive to the office building from Edmond, the drive home was about 30 minutes in peak traffic– there are some alternative routes I’ll explore that are apparently faster than I-235/US 75 or what is known as the “Broadway extension.”

On the home front, my wife found a very promising house close to the same areas we looked in previously and liked (in east Edmond), but in the Will Rogers Elementary district. Not a tremendous amount of academic, teacher and student information on their website, but I’m glad to see that all grades get recess!

Again it can seem overwhelming to think about all the issues that have to be dealt with concerning the job change and especially the move, but I think everything will work out. It is great to be working with super folks in the office, and I am really looking forward to the opportunities this job will afford to learn, meet, share and grow.

Oh, and my new new Dell Latitude 610 laptop is nice! Our IT guy can grant me “5 hours” of admin rights at a time to install new apps I have licenses for- so I’m compiling my list! 🙂

Sounds great. The girls have been great too. We are eating breakfast and watching Jo Jo. You will be proud of Rachel she is now potty-trained and goes on her own. We look loward to seeing Shelly and you this weekend.

Welcome to OKC! I’ve been reading your blog for a while, so it’s cool to find out you’re now located here. Your new job sounds very intriguiging . . . I have an interest in education not only as a parent, but because my husband is a high school math teacher (in Mustang).

I have friends that live in Edmond and I work near Quail Springs (right off the turnpike), so if you have any questions about the area feel free to drop me a line.

It sounds like you’ve settled on Edmond, but I have to say that Mustang, where we live, is also a wonderful community with a great school district (okay, I’m a little biased).

    Welcome to Oklahoma!!
