Diplomatic storytelling

posted in digitalstorytelling, politics |

NPR carried an interesting segment this morning titled, “Bolivian Ambassador to U.S. Breaks with Tradition.” The “left-leaning activist Evo Morales” has appointed a journalist to be the new Bolivian ambassador to the United States. In his interview, appointee Gustavo Guzman states that he believes the President of his country understands his abilities to effectively communicate and tell stories as a journalist– and he expects this skill to translate into effective storytelling in formal, diplomatic contexts concerning new changes in Bolivian politics and society. This reminds me of Dan Pink’s contention in “A Whole New Mind: Why Right-Brainers Will Rule the Future”– that “storytelling” is one of the six key skills of the 21st century. This will be an interesting news thread to follow in upcoming months.

On this day..
