Great profile of Room 208 scholars!

Apple has published a great profile of the 3rd and 4th grade scholars in Bob Sprankle’s Room 208 classroom at Wells Elementary School in Wells, Maine. The article is “Elementary School Students Become Podcasting Pros.” Way to go students and Mr. Sprankle! 🙂

I just wish we wouldn’t keep losing classroom teachers like Bob. He won’t be teaching in a classroom this year but has become a “Technology Integrator” at his school. I obviously wish Bob the best, but I cringe a bit everytime someone, one of the very few examples of classroom teachers effectively using technology leaves to do something else. Yes I know that perhaps he can spread his acquired knowledge on to others, however it is one less example of someone that is actually doing it in a classroom – because there sure doesn’t seem to be many that are (compared to how many that aren’t).

It will be interesting to track Bob’s perceptions of his change in role. I agree this is a loss, but as someone who has gone down the road of classroom teacher to technology facilitator– there are tradeoffs but also benefits. Part of me wishes I was back in the classroom, but in my current role I still am able to teach (although not have “my own” kids) as well as advocate at a different level than I could when a classroom teacher for edtech use as well as other things. I wish Bob the best as he makes this transition. I’m glad it sounds like you are staying, Brian! I’m eager to hear how things go with the iBooks this year too for you all!
