Encouraging student political interest and activism
posted in digitalstorytelling, politics |C-SPAN is sponsoring a documentary digital storytelling contest on its site, StudentCam. Unlike many other national digital storytelling contests, entrants do NOT have to be 18 to enter. According to the official rules, students must be in grades 6 - 12. Students select a political issue they care about and prepare a documentary video of up to 10 minutes in length.
Last fall, I stumbled upon upon the YouTube posted video, “Generation Webb FINAL VERSION.” This five minute video says a great deal about the potential for young people to get involved in politics and take action on issues of interest.
Spread the word. Encourage the young mediamakers in your community (and young people wanting to become mediamakers) to rise up, be heard, and get recognized by entering this contest!
