This podcast features an interview with representatives of Ignite Learning, an Austin-based company that sells an innovative digital curriculum product. Their purple COW is “Curriculum On Wheels” and features a wide variety of instructional math and science videos, primarily for students in grades 4-8. The COW is designed for whole-class instruction. Since all videos are available offline on the COW’s hard drive, Internet connectivity is not required to play and use the instructional content. The COW includes its own projector, and simply requires AC power and a screen or white wall on which the image can be projected. Updated videos are available for download from YouTube, including videos about Pluto, Daylight Saving Time, and other topics likely not addressed in older textbooks. While YouTube may be blocked on the school network, teachers (ANY teacher, not just those whose schools have purchased the Ignite Learning Purple COW) can use a web tool like the YouTube Downloader (linked in the podcast shownotes) to download FLV versions of these videos, and then play them back in the classroom using a free FLV player application.

Wes – if you haven’t seen it yet check out Mindomo – free web based
“Mind Mapping” ala Inspiration. I’ve just barely looked at it but it seems pretty good. Might be an addition to your Wiki.
