First Skype 3.1 call
posted in disruptive-technology, distributed-learning |I learned that Skype has an updated 3.1 version for Windows out now, and I like several of the interface and feature updates. The Mac version is still at version 2.6 Beta. For the first time I ran skype from Parallels via WindowsXP on my Macbook, and everything worked great. The new Skype 3.1 version has tabs to separate out your landline phone numbers from skype contacts, and also has a tab showing current “skypecasts” so you can join them directly from the Skype application without using a web browser.
I also tried the TalkandWrite Skype Extra, which is a collaborative whiteboard and application sharing app. Skype has an entire section of its website now focused on “extras” like that, and they are categorized in the following groups:
- Voice Services
- Productivity
- Games
- Expression
- Business
- Development
- Collaboration
- Community
- Miscellaneous
- Remote Access
I really DO love working and collaborating via Skype and other web tools. The folks I was working with tonight were in Dallas and Kansas City. It was like we were all gathered around my kitchen table! Gave me flashbacks to many skype calls for K-12 Online ‘06 with Sheryl, Darren and Lani!
