Moving at the Speed of Creativity by Wesley Fryer

School podcast publishing with LoudBlog

Many thanks to Dean Shareski for sharing some good humor and thoughts here over the weekend. Now I’ll be challenged to periodically add to my new humor blog category! 🙂 I was in San Antonio presenting a couple of workshops on podcasting, and (as always) emerged from the workshop experience learning several new things– hopefully the participants did as well!

One of the biggest takeaways was learning how San Antonio ISD is using the free software program LoudBlog to support teachers involved in the district’s podcasting initiatives. These podcasting efforts are part of the district’s SCRIBE initiative: Storytelling, Blogging and Podcasting. According to the project’s website:

SCRIBE flows from a simple vision. Unleashing the power of the human voice and creativity engages learners. Digital storytelling, blogging, and podcasts can help us accomplish that in easy, non-technical ways.

In addition to using blogs and podcasts to communicate and build virtual academic communities of learners, digital storytelling can also bridge the divide that exists between home and school experience, grandparent and grandchild, as well as cultural differences. Storytelling also enables students to take ownership for their own experiences and share those in appropriate, safe ways with a worldwide audience

Podcasts are relatively straightforward to create, but a variety of complexity enters into the recipe AFTER the podcast is created and the creator (or teacher) wants to share the podcast with the world, in a web feed. (Without a web feed, a published rich media document cannot truly be a “podcast,” since no one can “subscribe” to it without a feed.) According to the LoudBlog website:

Loudblog is a sleek and easy-to-use Content Management System (CMS) for publishing media content on the web. It automatically generates a skinnable website and an RSS-Feed for Podcasting. Just upload your audio/video files, add some notes and links, and you’re done!

One of the San Antonio ISD technology support staff members described the LoudBlog platform as “a four click solution to podcast publishing.” Nice!

  1. […] If so, let me join your club.  But I read about LoudBlog on another blog I follow and they swear by its simpleness! Four clicks away to posting a podcast! Thanks Wes Fryer for a great post to this.  I can’t wait to try it out. I’ll have to return here to let you know. […]
