Podcast185: Larry Derryberry Shares The Oklahoma Scranimal as a Digital Story

posted in books, digitalstorytelling, podcasts |

This podcast features of recording of former Oklahoma Attorney General Larry Derryberry’s opening remarks at the 2007 EncycloMedia Conference held in Oklahoma City on August 29, 2007. Larry has recently published a fun children’s book titled, “The Oklahoma Scranimal.” The book has been declared an official book of the Oklahoma Centennial, and is published by Tate Publishing of Mustang, Oklahoma. Larry is a wonderful storyteller, and in addition to telling conference attendees some stories about himself and the way he came to write (and his wife came to illustrate) “The Oklahoma Scranimal,” he also shared a digital story version of the book. While Larry is the primary narrator and singer, he is joined by Oklahoma governor Brad Henry, former OU football coach Barry Switzer, and others as character voices in the story. Many thanks to Larry Derryberry for sharing his stories and modeling the effective use of digital storytelling for media specialists and educators attending the 2007 Encyclomedia conference. Thanks to Larry for also granting permission to share this recording here on the Internet.
