I recorded a two-part webcast today about our statewide Celebrate Oklahoama Voices digital storytelling project at the Oklahoma Technology Assistance Center (OTAC) in Cushing, Oklahoma. After some post-production editing that webcast should be available soon on the OTAC website. I recorded an interview with two OTAC staff members which I plan to publish here soon as a podcast, but this evening I want to point out the 50+ webcasts about a diverse array of educational issues of interest to alternative education teachers as well as others available FREE on the OTAC website. Like the K-12 Online Conference, OTAC webcasts acknowledge the power of blended learning, permitting educators to flexibly access asynchronous video content which can be viewed at the time and location of their choosing. It’s great to see OTAC taking a leadership role in providing blended professional development opportunities for teachers in our state!
Tomorrow is the start of our 2009 two-day Oklahoma Technology Association’s annual conference in Oklahoma City. I’m definitely looking forward to Will Richardson‘s keynote. (This is Will’s first time to Oklahoma!) Even though I’m sure we’ll have a great conference, there will still be BIG limits on how many sessions people can attend and who is even able to attend the conference at all in-person. Blended professional development offers GREAT opportunities for educators to learn, and can be even more accessible than face-to-face conference presentations.
I continue to marvel at how many innovative and creative ideas originate with alternative education teachers as well as in rural schools, relative to our larger school district systems. In many cases, I think the educators courageous and bold enough to not only “think differently” but also “act differently” in our schools are in smaller, rural schools or alternative education settings where it’s clear that the “traditional” ways of instructing students just won’t work.
