Posted on September 14, 2009, “Did You Know 4.0″ already has about 300,000 YouTube views and you can bet it’s headed for viral status as were its predecessors. The video was put together in advance of the third annual Media Convergence Conference in New York City, 20-21 October, 2009. Unlike its predecessors, the focus of this version is NOT specifically on education, but it still “speaks” to education in my view as well as our society more generally.
Both Karl Fisch and Scott McLeod provide background about this iteration on their blogs. If you’re wondering where the “3.0 version” of the video was/is, Karl explains it is a Sony/BMG remix now available on YouTube. Laura Bestler, a graduate student working with Scott McLeod, is credited with doing most of the research for this latest video.

In contrast to past versions of “Did You Know,” this one seems faster paced and to share fewer statistics overall. I’m not sure I like the faster pace, but it may be better to be shorter and less overwhelming from a content perspective. The data and statistics which are shared certainly are attention grabbing, and that – of course – is the main point of the video.
