A select group of 19 K-12 teachers and teacher/librarians in the College Community School District in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has been participating in a series of professional development workshops to further develop their skills with and understanding of digital literacy. As a culminating activity for a two day workshop on “Mapping Media to the Curriculum” with Wesley Fryer, teachers collaboratively interviewed six of their colleagues about their “digital learning journeys” and the ways they are reflecting their learning about digital literacy in the online digital portfolios they have been creating in the past several months. Check out the podcast shownotes for links to the individual posts which teachers created to accompany each interview at the close of the workshop. 30. […] Week 7: Iowa Teachers ShareTheir Digital Journeys Posted on October 18, 2012 by Chantay Caron I went on to this website and listen to the podcast about digital learning journeys. when listening to the teachers talk about the how they are trying to use/ implement technology in their classrooms. One teacher was talking about how she works with students who are only speaking in Spanish or writing in Spanish and she wants to give them the opportunity to tell a story through technology and she said it is hard for her because she is not tech savey but the websites and the things that she has found really helpful and she thought that it would be fun for her students to use some of them to complete a project she was having them do. I think that using technology in the classroom is a really good idea. I feel as if it gets students familiar with other ways to do things like projects, but also helps make things/projects in the classroom more interesting for teachers to make and students to learn and be engaged in. If you want to go listen to more teachers talk about why they like using technology in class and ideas they came up with here is a link: http://www.speedofcreativity.org/2012/10/03/podcast396-six-iowa-teachers-librarians-share-their-digi… […]
