If your schedule permits, please plan to attend the FREE EdCamps coming up in June in northwest Oklahoma (June 10) and south-central Kansas (June 13)! If you’re not familiar with EdCamps, you need to be. EdCamps are free “unconferences” organized by volunteers, providing opportunities for educators to learn, collaborate, and network together. The EdCamp movement is worldwide, and there are great reasons these professional development events are so popular. Broken Arrow Middle School principal, Tony Sappington, described EdCamps in our EdCampBA organizer meeting this week as “professional development as it should be: self-directed and differentiated.” The 2.5 minute video, “EdCamp 101,” provides a good overview of what EdCamps are.
EdCamp Northwest Oklahoma 2014 will be held Tuesday, June 10th in Woodward at High Plains Technology Center. FREE registration is available via EventBrite. A pre-EdCamp meet up is planned for 7 pm on Monday, June 9th at Ramiro’s Mexican Restaurant. Check the schedule for more details.

EdCamp Kansas 2014 will be held Friday, June 13th at Andover High School in Andover, just south of Wichita. FREE registration via EventBrite is available, but as of this writing just 63 tickets are left! EdCamp Kansas may sell out!

While you’re marking your calendar for upcoming EdCamps in Oklahoma, pencil in “EdCamp Broken Arrow” for Saturday, August 9, 2014. Also plan for EdCamp Stillwater (@EdCampStilly) on Saturday, September 20th at the College of Education at Oklahoma State University. These and other upcoming (as well as past) Oklahoma EdCamps are listed and linked on EdCampOK.org.
I’ll be going to EdCamp Kansas for sure with my wife on June 13th, but my plans for June 10th are still up in the air. Both events are going to be GREAT for learning, collaboration and networking! And the price is right: FREE!
