MacBook Air Digital Lust

Ok, I’m amazed and already sold. This IS the laptop I’ve wanted for the last three years. After my son and I flew back to Oklahoma City today from Michigan, we had to stop by the Apple Store and check out the new MacBook Air which Steve Jobs announced on Wednesday. The 11″ model is a $1000 Apple netbook. 2.3 pounds.

If this is going to be my primary laptop, however, I think the extra screen real estate on the 13.3″ will be worth the additional $$$. It weighs in at 2.9 pounds. Here’s the 13.3″ version once…

And again…

For comparison, here’s the 11 inch. Amazing.

Apple does “geek cool” so well. 🙂

I understand your digital lust for either one, I have a feeling that sometime in the next year a MBP air 11″ model will find its way to my hands, but I will have a 21″ monitor to use with it at home for when I need a little more screen 🙂 Good luck I hope you have it in your travel bag.

So why get the 11″ Air or 13″ Air as opposed to a 13″ MB or MBP??
No disc drive. Less hard drive?

Wes, Thanks for the photos….I already gave in and purchased the 11.6″…upped the RAM and upped the processor. Will be here later in the week. It is not going to be my main machine, and I wanted something smaller. I had hackintoshed an MSI Wind, but this will be light years ahead of that!

Paul: The biggest issue is weight. The Air is so much lighter! I rarely use my optical drive, also, so I don’t think I’ll miss it.

Kathy: I’ll be eager to hear how you like it. My good friend, Sherman, hackintoshed a Dell Mini10 last year and was very pleased with the results, but it just has 1 GB of RAM that isn’t upgradable. I agree the performance of a MacBook Air should make any hackintoshed netbook look VERY slow!

I’m thinking of upgrading the RAM and hard drive of the 13.3″ Air. I have 4 GB of RAM and a 250 GB hard drive now on my MB Pro, which is 3 years old. I certainly don’t want to go down in hard drive size. I’m very eager to experience the performance of the flash-based hard drive.

I wish I hadn’t JUST bought a MB pro 13″. I love that you’re wearing the Apple shirt at the Apple store. My love for Apple is a little more permanent when I go to the nearest store. (sadly 3 hrs away). http://www.flickr.com/photos/35518951@N03/3289832132/
