Garageband

Garageband is a free, powerful audio composition and editing program for Macintosh OS X. Garageband can be used to create podcasts, but will not directly export audio files to mp3 format. If you want your podcast in mp3 (and you should, even if you are creating an enhanced podcast, to increase accessiblity) you will need to convert your m4a audio file from Garageband into mp3 using iTunes. These tutorials on using Garageband may be helpful:

  2. Getting started with Garageband (Tutorials from Apple)
  3. Garageband Basics (PDF file) from Penn State

Windows users can purchase the following commercial software programs, which have similar functionality to Garageband:Â

  1. Adobe Audition
  2. Steinberg’s Cubase SE
  3. Cakewalk’s Kinetic
  4. Sony’s ACID Music Studio
