Support Wings of Valor: The Jimmy Doolitte Air & Space Museum in California

Do you know know about the contributions of Jimmy Doolittle to the United States military during World War II? Do the names “Doolittle Raid,” “USS Hornet,” and “North American B-25 Mitchell bomber” bring stories of historical significance to your mind? If not (and especially if you’re a U.S. citizen) they should. If you’ve seen the 2001 Hollywood movie, “Pearl Harbor,” you may remember scenes of Alec Baldwin who portrayed General (then Lt Col) James Doolittle in the movie. Beyond Hollywood movies like this which, by their very nature, are only able to showcase a small portion of “the real stories” of history, we each need to remember Jimmy Doolittle and the sacrifices he made alongside other airmen and soldiers in World War II.

Jelly Belly support for the Jimmy Doolittle Air & Space Museum

Yesterday, thanks to a variety of fortuitous circumstances, I met and interviewed a co-director of the capital campaign fund for the new Jimmy Doolittle Air and Space Museum planned to replace the current Travis Air Museum at Travis Air Force Base in California. In addition to helping lead fundraising efforts for the Jimmy Doolittle Museum, Herman Rowland is the chairman of the board of Jelly Belly. In this five minute interview, Herman explains his passion for patriotism, the U.S. military, the sacrifices of our servicemen and women, and the importance of the Jimmy Doolittle Museum.

Please consider making a donation, even a small one, to support the building and renovation of this museum. Please share this video, the Jimmy Doolittle Museum website, and the museum Facebook page with others who might be interested in the work of these historians and supporting their work. In addition, check out this overview video about the museum introduced by Tom Hanks. Herman said Hanks contributed his time to make his portion of this video and created it at his own studio. If you know anything about Tom Hanks, you should know he’s passionate about recognizing the sacrifices of our military service members and sharing their stories. This is a good project which deserves our support.

‘Envisioning’ the New Jimmy Doolittle Air & Space Museum is a ten minute video which gives many more details about the specific plans for the museum.
