Firewire over IP and Target Mode

An update on some handy ways to transfer data between Macs very fast.

Apparently Apple is NOT supporting TCP/IP over firewire. I was wondering about this today because we have had some network interruptions between 2 of our Mac servers at work and I was contemplating a firewire solution to connect the 2, which would bypass our LAN altogether.

Firewire target mode is also discussed in the article above– I have found both firewire target mode as well as the previous SCSI disk mode to be invaluable techniques for transferring data to and from Mac laptops. This how-to article provides some guidance if this is of interest.
