Moving at the Speed of Creativity by Wesley Fryer

Off to the races!

For several months now, our home Internet connection with Cox Communications has been causing a fair bit of frustration. At least 4 or 5 times a day, the Internet connection inexplicably has gone down requiring that the modem be reset, followed by our router. My father in law learned the older cable modems we each had were not fast enough to keep up with the faster cable modem network, which has been upgraded– and this was likely our problem.

Today for $20, we picked up a new cable modem, and based on my initial test (via the free Internet Frog Speed Test) things look great!

Off to the races

It turns out we had had our old cable modem since 2001, when we were beta testers for the first cable modem high speed home network in our area. It’s performed well for five years, so I guess it’s reasonable we need an upgrade!

We are supposed to get about 4 MB down and 512 up, and this test looks like we’re pretty close to those speeds. We have had a fair bit of trouble videoconferencing with iChat AV lately, and hopefully the problem was the modem and our connection speeds. We shall soon see! 🙂
