One of the most tedious parts of my current job is meticulously keeping receipts for all travel expenses. Friday a co-worker told me about the “scanalizer” scanner she read about in an airline in-flight catalog, and I read up about it a bit online. I’d love to have something like this, but would prefer a model that is also Macintosh compatible.
Does anyone have experiences or insights into a portable scanner like this, which can both scan receipts as well as business cards directly into an address book application? I do have WinXP running via Parallels on my Macbook, so I could use a Windows-only solution, but I’d prefer a cross platform one.
A cursory Google search shows the DocuPen RC800 is available for Windows and Macintosh users (including Intel-based Mac users) but is more costly than the scanalizer: $350 versus about $200. The Pentax DSmobile® USB portable scanner is not really an option, since it must be connected to a computer and can’t run on its own, saving to internal memory. (It’s about $135.)
Any suggestions or experiences to share?
