Moving at the Speed of Creativity by Wesley Fryer

Teacher Barbara Morgan is in orbit!

How wonderful to read tonight that Barbara Morgan, the backup teacher-astronaut to Christa McAuliffe in the ill-fated 1986 Space Shuttle Challenger mission, successfully launched into space along with the other crew members of STS-118 this evening as the space shuttle Endeavour escaped the gravity of our blue planet and entered orbit. 🙂

Visit the NASA STS-188 Education Resources page for LOTS of ideas and resources for helping your students experience the excitement of this mission as it happens in space! The subtitle of the page is, “Igniting the Flame of Knowledge.” 🙂 If you have access to videoconferencing equipment in your school district, consider registering for a free connection to NASA on their Digital Learning Network. I helped facilitate three successful videoconferences for students and teachers here in Oklahoma last May with DLN educators, and they were all GREAT! All reservations for NASA videoconferences must be made no later than 30 days in advance of the conference date. There is no charge from NASA for these connections, and the DLN has an extensive catalog of available videoconferences.
