Use your school phone dialer to share podcasts with parents!
We just finished a great conversation over on EdTechTalk with the “It’s Elementary” webcasting team of Lisa Durff, Jose Rodriguez. Alice Mercer, Maria Knee, and others who joined via the chat room. Lots of great links and ideas were shared, but I’ll comment on two briefly. Alice’s classroom podcasts, published to her Edublogs website, include…

Update on “Invent the Future” After School Club / Scratch Programming
I was able to visit with our school principal today, as well as one of our PTO presidents, about the idea of having an “every other week” after-school computer club, most likely for just 4th and 5th graders. (I wrote about this a couple of weeks ago in the post “Digital Playground of Dreams.” Our…

Teacher Barbara Morgan is in orbit!
How wonderful to read tonight that Barbara Morgan, the backup teacher-astronaut to Christa McAuliffe in the ill-fated 1986 Space Shuttle Challenger mission, successfully launched into space along with the other crew members of STS-118 this evening as the space shuttle Endeavour escaped the gravity of our blue planet and entered orbit. 🙂 Visit the NASA…

reCAPTCHA, OCR, and the work of blog commenters
I listened to the June NPR Technology report “Turning Verification Codes into Books?” several weeks ago, but not until this evening when I was visiting Bob Sprankle’s Bit by Bit blog did I become a willing worker in the creative reCAPTCHA project. This ingenious project is using the captcha word entries bloggers enter when commenting…

An ID3 Tag Podcast Mystery
I noticed a strange thing today regarding the podcasts I’ve subscribed to and downloaded to my iPod, and I can’t explain it. The problem regards ID3 tags which are the labels for each podcast episode. Perhaps you’ll have some insights and suggestions! Here’s the situation. Rather than directly subscribe to podcasts in iTunes, for the…
