Seven evils of education?
In Roger Schank’s Nov 2006 column “The 7th P” he adds “professors” to the previous “Six P’s of “evils” in education (Parents, Publishers, Press, Politicians, and Princeton 2 times) he has identified. He wrote: I knew I quit the university for a reason. The other day I was reminded why. I was running one of…

Recording skype video and audio calls
I was glad to learn this evening that Call Recorder for Skype, a $15 program I’ve used for a year or so to record skype audio calls now has been updated to also record Skype video calls. Excellent! The program integrates right into Skype (for Macintosh) so you specify the settings you want like other…

Fast Company mention
I heard a few rumors back in February that the March 2007 issue of “Fast Company” magazine included some references to several edu-bloggers, including yours truly. Now that a newer issue is on the stands, the article (“Back to School”) is available online for free. The article also mentions David Warlick and Joanne Jacobs. Interesting…

People will educate themselves?
I have received a few interesting comments on a YouTube video I posted back in January titled “Elephants in the School Reform Debate.” Today someone posted the following comment, and since YouTube limits comments to just 500 characters (which my response exceeds) I am posting my response here and linking to it from the YouTube…

Powerful Blending
Well, I think my pre-conference workshop at SITE went well today. The title was, “Powerful Blending: Using Web 2.0 to Interact, Create, and Assess.” The abstract was: Web 2.0 technologies offer powerful and diverse options for learners to interact, create content, and assess the outcomes of the learning process. Blended learning environments which combine online…

Making Google Reader feed subscriptions easier
I’m continuing to experiment with Google Reader as an alternative to Bloglines for subscribing, scanning and reading blog posts. One of the main things I’ve missed about using Google Reader has been the absence of a “browser button” to subscribe with a couple clicks to a blog’s web feed. (Bloglines calls these “easy subscribe” buttons.)…

SITE Fireside skypecast
If you’re not attending the SITE conference next week in San Antonio, you can still participate “live” in at least one event via skype. Lynne Schrum’s and Anne Thompson’s fireside chat on Wednesday, March 28th, 2007 will be available as a “live” skypecast! The session description on Skypecasts is: This panel continues a conversation started…

Strange iPod game sync issue
Ever since MacWorld in Jan07 when I was able to give some of the commercial games for the 5th Generation iPod Video a spin, I’ve been wanting to purchase at least one. (Vortex is the main one I played and was impressed with.) This evening I finally made 2 purchases (for a grand total of…
