Vocabulary Comprehension and Visual Literacy with PicLits

http://piclits.com

From the website about page:

PicLits.com is a creative writing site that matches beautiful images with carefully selected keywords in order to inspire you. The object is to put the right words in the right place and the right order to capture the essence, story, and meaning of the picture.

My thought: A great website to use for vocabulary comprehension and visual / digital literacy!

Hi. Thanks for the compliments regarding our site ( PicLits.com ). Vocabulary is one of several teaching features. After two years of BETA testing, we are getting feedback that indicates that DRAG-N-DROP is particularly useful for vocabulary as well as grammar, punctuation, spelling, and basic writing skills. The latest research shows that writing helps to improve reading as well. FREESTYLE is more creative and seems to be used by older kids and ADULTS. 25% of our users are from outside the USA. Language arts and ESL/ELL teachers are our largest audience to date. Please feel free to give us your feedback and advice. See the CONTACT US link on the site.
Thanks in advance. We are working to find a partner to install the COMING SOON page that is posted on the home page. Check it out.

Thanks for the kudos regarding PicLits. Drag-n-Drop is used also for punctuation, spelling, and grammar. It also levels the field when used in the classroom. It allows for capitalization and verb tenses (see drop down arrows). FREESTYLE is just that. We do suggest certain words on the right side of the freestyle section. There is an extensive study on the positive effects of wrting on reading …… very useful. If you have a opp. put PicLits on a SMART board and check out the involvement. Piclits are sentences ( simple to compound, captions, poems, stories, quotations, lyrics from songs, Haiku, paragraphs, etc …….. Let us know if we can be of any help or if you have feedback for us. THANKS
