Due to lack of interest (I haven’t received any RSVPs / registrations to date) I’m canceling the FREE “Playing with Media Meetup” scheduled for this Friday, February 8th, in Oklahoma City on “Creating Games & Simulations with Scratch.” I’m hopeful I’ll get some registrations for the Friday, March 15th meetup I’ve scheduled at Northwest Library on “Creating iPad Digital Puppet Videos.” I also have a meetup in April scheduled for the 19th on “eBook Self-Publishing 101.” If you’re in or near Oklahoma City please consider registering and attending these free events, and sharing them with other educators as well as parents who might be interested.
I’m hopeful I’ll be able to lead another 5 day morning “Scratch Camp” in the OKC Metro Area over Spring Break, March 18-22. Those details have not been confirmed yet, however.

hi
i am based in johannesburg south africa, and i homeschool my two kids. we would have loved to join your playing with media meet ups, but as it is not possible i want the second best thing. is it possible that under your patronage i can run similar meet ups here in johannesburg? me and my kids love exploring new technologies, and we already have worked a bit in scratch, robot mind etc. here in SA unfortunately, not much emphasis is put on learning new technology in schools and i can see a need for such meet ups.
if i organize such meet ups, will yo be able to help me in setting up a general routine, how and what to do in each meet up, share your resources etc.?
looking forward to hearing from you.

Umm:
I wish there was a way I could share Scratch with you in person! I’m sure there must be some folks there in South Africa who are using it and could assist you. My recommendation is to get in touch with the Scratch Team at MIT, and see if they can put you in touch with local contacts they have:
http://blog.scratch.mit.edu/
I’d be glad to help share resources with you if you organize Scratch meet-ups, but the Scratch Team is “the source” for these kinds of things. I’m just trying to share Scratch with students as well as parents here in Oklahoma. This is the link to the “Scratch Camp” curriculum I used last summer, based in-part on curriculum resources I found on the Scratch Education website:
https://sites.google.com/site/divjrscratch/
I’m going to be co-leading another Scratch camp in March (during our “Spring Break”) and will be updating that same website with the curriculum we’ll be using. I’ll also let the Scratch Team know about your interest! I hope you can find the resources you’ll need to learn more about Scratch and share it in South Africa, both with your children and with other students!
thanks a lot for the help. i will definitely try look into these sites. i have tried but i can not seem to find anyone here in Johannesburg at least who can help me. i will stay in touch and take guidance from you!
thanks
