This quick video (3 minutes) shows the steps I used to make Google Chrome the default browser in our Windows7 school computer lab, “pin” Google Chrome to the task bar at the bottom of the screen instead of Internet Explorer, and make our school website the default homepage which opens each time the Chrome browser is opened. Note this is setup for the “generic student login account” we use at our school, this homepage setting may not persist when different users login to the computers in the lab.
It’s very helpful to change the default homepage of your computer web browser in a school computer lab. That site can then serve as the “home base” where students link out to other web resources. This can streamline Internet access and reduce (or eliminate altogether) the time students spend in the lab typing different website addresses into their browser. It’s good for students to know how to type in URLs in a browser, but it can also waste a lot of precious class time.
