  • Storychasing Summer Camp

Earlier this month, I had the privilege to accompany my son and his scout troop to summer camp in Colorado. Our group for the week included about 40 boys and 10 parents. Shortly after arriving at the church before our departure by charter bus, one of the other parents approached me and asked if I’d…

  • Surviving the Liberian Civil War – A Personal Story

Oklahoma teacher Caroline Barchue created the 3.5 minute video, “Surviving the Liberian Civil War,” as her “teacher B-side” video project this week during the Oklahoma Creativity Institute. Take a few minutes to listen to her story. It puts a lot in perspective, including the FEARS we may have as teachers about learning to teach with…

  • More Google Translate for Animals Videos

On April Fool’s Day this year, Google introduced a hilarious video for a fictitious new application, Google Translate for Animals. I was amused to see recently that in addition to the original video, they also shared three other videos with translation examples from a cow, pig and chicken. My question is, what would a kiwi…

  • If Google Moderator and YouTube are good enough for the White House, what about your classroom?

On June 15th, 2010, President Obama addressed the nation about the oil spill in the gulf. Following the address, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs answered questions submitted by thousands of people worldwide who used the free website Google Moderator. To date on the page, “Gulf Coast Oil Leak: What Are Your Suggestions?” 15,835 people…

  • Jaycut, not YouTube, has the best online, free video editor today

Google’s announcement last week of its beta YouTube video editor inspired me to take another look at how easy it can be to create a video ENTIRELY online, using a web browser instead of client-side software like iMovie or Windows Live MovieMaker. I last gave this a stab in July 2008 using the now defunct…

Our schedule (available as an event on Facebook) will include a presentation by yours truly from 8:45 – 10:45 PST on the topic, “An invitation to…

  • Sketchcasting: A combination of blogging, talking and drawing!

Mete Akcaoglu defines “sketchcasting” as: … an attempt to merge the power of blogging with the “high-bandwidth” experience of talking and scribbling at the same time… it’s effectively a podcast with a whiteboard. He’s created the YouTube channel Sketchcaster, and has eight examples posted there to date. He’s posted his sketchcasts over on sketch.basement.org. His…

  • Apple pulled PixelPipe app in March 2010

This explains why the updated PixelPipe iPhone app won’t allow the selection of multiple photos anymore for simultaneous upload. This is a HUGE bummer. I loved that functionality for mobile storychasing.Apparently the PixelPipe iPhone app no longer supports video uploads to Flickr either, just image uploads. It’s very disheartening that Apple’s policies stifle developer creativity…

  • Resources from today’s #icil2010 presentations

Week 1 of the 2010 iConnect, iLearn Conference came to an end today in Colby, Kansas. Next week the conference moves to Salina, Kansas. These are the session resources from the morning’s keynote and two breakout sessions I shared. I did record audio for the keynote, and may share that later as a podcast and…
