Google Educators’ Discussion Group and Academies
I was glad to learn today that Google has setup a fairly new discussion group for educators. Previously they had used a Google group to share announcements, but this tool is an interactive discussion forum where people can post questions and answers. I joined tonight and the membership is 570+ and growing! I chimed in…

Saturday’s article from Pennsylvania “Hermitage principal sues over MySpace parody” highlights issues of ongoing importance relating to user-created content, defamation, free speech, and appropriate/ethical uses of digital technologies. According to the article: A school principal sued four former students who he contends posted parody MySpace.com profiles saying he smoked pot, kept beer at school and…

Blog tools keep getting better
Last night I setup a new podcast blog for a church project on wordpress.com, and I was very pleased with how easy the process was and the new features which are available there for free. Blended learning environments which combine online…

Making Google Reader feed subscriptions easier
I’m continuing to experiment with Google Reader as an alternative to Bloglines for subscribing, scanning and reading blog posts. One of the main things I’ve missed about using Google Reader has been the absence of a “browser button” to subscribe with a couple clicks to a blog’s web feed. (Bloglines calls these “easy subscribe” buttons.)…

Evolving online security threats deserve more attention
The networked computing environment which regularly brings new powerful, collaborative tools to the fingertips of users around the globe continues to morph and reveal more insidious, creative ways hackers, criminals and spies are using these tools for malicious purposes. Mikko Hypponen from F-Secure’s new 9.5 minute video on YouTube about “Targeted Attacks” provides a good…

Encouragement for prime movers and catalysts
I used the analogy of developing new cognitive maps for the information and communication landscape of the 21st century in the conclusion of my spotlight presentation at MacWorld back in January. Like the European explorers of the 15th century, we’re moving into uncharted waters. I really like that analogy, because it communicates this idea of…
