Moving at the Speed of Creativity by Wesley Fryer

MAMP, WAMP, Instiki

Thanks to Miguel Guhlin for the links to MAMP (Macintosh, Apache, Mysql and PHP) and WAMP (Windows, Apache, MySQL/PHP). Miguel obviously had some good time on his hands this weekend to do some serious tinkering with some powerful read/write web tools. Miguel has done some great experimenting with Plone, Mambo and Joomla which I blogged about last week. I actually want to do the same sort of experimentation myself, but as I had a family wedding to attend this weekend, no time for this yet…..

Looks like MAMP is designed primarily as a development environment. In the next week I need to get WordPress MU (multi-user) running on a server at work, we are going to start using blogs to document many of the accreditation-related activities of our organization to take advantage of the easy publishing, organization, and searching which WordPress offers (for free of course).

I also want/need to get a Wiki environment setup on a works server, mainly to start a new oral history project I have discussed with a friend in town who has a photo archive of all the courthouses in the state of Texas. Miguel’s reference to Instiki is definitely worth following up on.

More on both of these projects later…
