Moving at the Speed of Creativity by Wesley Fryer

Welcome to my new blog home!

After using iBlog as my primary blogging tool since July 2003, and a Bloglines blog for my educational technology updates, I have decided it is time for a change.

Server-based blogging tools are superior, in my mind, to software based tools that rely on FTP or another transmission method to upload blog content. The main reason is that by using a server-based blogging tool, I can blog or update blog content from any computer connected to the Internet, and that process is extremely fast and easy. With a software tool like iBlog, I have to actually be ON the computer where that software is installed to make blog updates.

Another feature I have been looking for is support of tagging, so I can have my blog posts indexed by sites like Technorati. I figured out how to get iBlog to support tags and ping Technorati, but it is cumbersome because it requires me creating a new category for each new tag I want to use. Judging by the number of tags I have used on my social bookmarks account since starting a few months ago, this option does not seem viable for me.

I have done a fair amount of Internet research and consulted with several bloggers whose opinions I value, and WordPress looks like the best solution. I still have not decided if I am going to move my older posts from my previous blogs over to this one or not, and place redirects on the old URLs, or simply leave that content online as-is. My inclination is to move the content, but this will obviously take awhile. Living as we do an an attention economy, I experience almost daily the importance of blogging and transparency in terms of doing my job, making contacts, and learning new information. So it is very important to me that when people visit my blog, they are able to get a very accurate picture of who I am, what I know, and what expertise/creative ideas I can potentially share or offer them. So I’ll probably move my old blog content here, as well as update with a template that matches my main homepage.
