This evening I had an opportunity to conduct some impromptu video interviews using my iPhone, and edit them together using iMovie for iPhone for the first time. I published the final movie, which is just over five minutes long, in HD format to YouTube. I titled it, “Chili Cook-Off for Kids Ministries!”
Compared to ReelDirector for iPhone, which I’ve used twice previously, iMovie for iPhone seemed smoother, easier and faster. I like the cross-dissolve transitions it inserted. The themes are nice (I chose “Bright”) and the controls were straightforward. I actually didn’t have to trim or edit any of the clips I shot, which was nice from a speed standpoint, but I’ll have to go back into iMovie at some point to practice that process. Overall I remain AMAZED how easy and fast this process of mobile HD videography can be.

I have re-uploaded the video and deleted the original… apparently I needed to be more patient with YouTube transcoding this…. The version I uploaded from my phone was just over 100 MB. The version I uploaded from my laptop, after transferring the video from my iPhone, was over 405 MB. YouTube says it is going to take an hour and 8 minutes to transcode it for web viewing. (process it) I was impatient and thought the first version had an error… Now I’m thinking I just didn’t wait long enough. I’ll replace the embedded version above with the “new” version when the processing is completed… It will be linked from:

I tried to simply import iphone video to imovie, and ended up with messages saying the video was incompatible format. I went through iphoto like many have said to do…now I have a very serious funeral I cannot edit and publish. so frustrated!
