I wrote recently about “Humanizing discussions about immigration and borders.” This evening while searching online for a series of videos Marco Torres created with Australian administrators awhile back (which I did not find) I ran across his amazing documentary “tocayo”, linked from his misc. productions movie page. This story of Marco Antonio Vasquez’s experience risking his life to immigrate to the United States, to provide for his family back in Guatemala, is remarkable both for the events it relates as well as the effective digital storytelling methods employed in the video. Wow.
If I had to, I can imagine taking those types of risks to provide for my family, pero gracias a Dios en este momento esta proposicion no es necesario. Watch this film for in-depth perspectives on ongoing issues of economics and human trafficking which you may not find in the mainstream media.
Thanks Marco Torres for directing this, and thanks to Marco Antonio Vasquez for sharing his story.
