Podcast171: Brainstorming K-12 Curricular Uses of Podcasting

This podcast was created by teachers in Mustang Public Schools (Oklahoma) at an all-day workshop I helped facilitate on July 9, 2007 about the instructional uses of podcasting across the K-12 curriculum. In the afternoon, teachers worked in groups of two or three and brainstromed curricular uses for podcasts they think are practical in their schools and content areas. In the morning and early afternoon, teachers listened to a variety of podcasts and created a group podcast using a reader’s theater script. Some of the teacher groups also got creative using audio clips they found online on the Podsafe Music Network and the WaveSource website. At least two teachers from each of the district’s eleven campuses were present at this training, and teachers will be returning to their buildings to help other teachers create podcasts with their students. All these podcast clips were created separately using free Audacity software. The teachers came up with lots of great ideas for using podcasts for learning! I love the fact so many of their ideas focused on empowering students to create podcasts and share their voices with their communities and the wider world. I think the teachers had fun during the workshop and left energized with practical skills as well as ideas for using podcasting (digital storytelling) in their classrooms next school year. I’ll look forward to hopefully following up with many of these teachers as they creatively use podcasts with their students to support learning in the months ahead!

    Hi Wes,

Great podcast!! Perfect timing, I am just about to do a similar presentation with teachers in remote communities here in Australia…. Trust it is ok to link to this in my seminar notes?
