This podcast features a recorded interview from the SITE 2007 conference with Rushton Hurley, executive director of Next Vista for Learning. Nextvista.org is nonprofit organization offering an online library of free videos for learners everywhere. Users can find resources to help them learn just about anything, meet people who make a difference in their communities, and even discover new parts of the world. The availability of education-specific online video websites like NextVista and TeacherTube suggests a future of even more robust access to high quality content for learning, including online videos.

My favorite in Next Vista, is the “Seeing Service” — “videos in this collection will highlight good deeds large and small …. The hope is that students who wonder about their own value will see what the people in these videos do and realize that those are things they are capable of doing, too. Students might encounter these videos as writing prompts, could produce one themselves as part of a project, or even choose to watch one just to be reminded that there are indeed good people out there.”
There are only 2 videos posted so far… let’s find more good news to share!!
I agree with you Charlene, it would be great to encourage more folks to post videos in the “Seeing Service” category. In fact, it would be a great project to have students involved as the “technology experts” recording video interviews with people in their community. Those videos could subsequently be contributed to Next Vista in that category!
