Powerful Blending

Well, I think my pre-conference workshop at SITE went well today. The title was, “Powerful Blending: Using Web 2.0 to Interact, Create, and Assess.” The abstract was:

Web 2.0 technologies offer powerful and diverse options for learners to interact, create content, and assess the outcomes of the learning process. Blended learning environments which combine online as well as face-to-face instructional settings can provide more differentiated learning opportunities as well as rich options for assessment. This workshop will introduce participants to several web 2.0 technologies and instructional activities that can support these goals.

Among other things, the online wiki curriculum includes some of my current thinking about frameworks for understanding web 2.0 tools by pedagogy / instructional characteristics and function:

A Framework for Thinking Instructionally About Web 2.0 Tools

Look at the bottom of the wiki page for a framework by function. This is far from complete, more an example of me “thinking out loud” via the wiki curriculum rather than a formally published “product.”

I’ll publish recordings I made from the 3 hour session later as podcasts. 🙂

Love the framework! This is a very clear way of categorizing the many web 2.0 tools in a way that immediately makes sense.
